We had a wonderful time at Club Ancon.
The reviews we read were helpful, but there were some things that we were unable to find out before the trip:
1/ Our room (superior) had power outlets for both 110V and 220V. And both voltage receptacles accepted both 3 prong north american and 2 prong European plugs. A standard room also had a similar arrangement (110V in bathroom). The upshot is that north Americans will not need a converter.
2/ If you are into sailing this is not a great place (as I understand the rest of Cuba isn’t). There are 2 Hobies but you are basically ballast. Staff sails the boat. On the public beach next door we understand that it is the same (except that you pay 10 CUC to be ballast).
3/ For vegetarians the food was better than feared. If you are strict like us, you will be happy with the choice of both poached and hardboiled eggs at breakfast (no touching the meat grill). At the other meals no veg protein (except maybe cheese). The black beans look good but appear to have meat bits in them. Stock up at breakfast (or bring protein). Vegetables were very good, but again watch for unlabelled meat bits.
